The Oklahoma Aeronautics Commission and USA-OK are sponsoring an evening dinner and presentation that addresses legal and public policy issues regarding Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS). The dinner event will be on the evening of August 8th, 2016 (a day before the main 2016 USA-OK Summit at the National Weather Center in Norman, Oklahoma on August 9th, 2016).

The purpose of the 2016 USA-OK Summit is to recognize Oklahoma's unmanned and aerospace industry and support Governor Mary Fallin's efforts toward the development of Oklahoma's strengths and resources as a prime location for advancement, testing, and flight of UAS. The evening event is a unique opportunity for industry officials, businesses, hobbyists, and educators to come together in one unified voice and meet with state legislators and other elected officials to discuss federal and state laws regarding the use of drones for business and recreation. A panel of distinguished experts will discuss timely and important legal, public policy and constitutional issues associated with emerging UAS regulations and rules and the safe integration of UAS into the national airspace. Oklahoma's has a strong aviation heritage and it is a natural progression for the state, and specifically the Oklahoma Aeronautics Commission, to lead in policy development in state UAS use.

Background:

Topics will cover important 1st and 4th Amendment considerations, existing aviation law concerns, privacy, federal preemption challenges, and state concerns and issues.

-Professor Joseph Thai, OU Law School

-Professor Marc Blitz, OCU Law School

-Vic Bird, Executive Director of the Oklahoma Aeronautics Commission

Many of these same entities will have exhibit booths set up around the fourth floor rotunda to promote their organizations and to show what impact they and the rest of the state's aerospace industry have on Oklahoma's economy.

Unmanned Aerial Systems (UAS) Facts & Figures:

Oklahoma is a national leader for unmanned aerial system research and testing.

Oklahoma was the Department of Homeland Security's selected site for its small UAS Robotic Aircraft for Public Safety (RAPS) program that supports first responders.

Oklahoma State University in Stillwater has the only UAS master's and Ph.D. programs in the nation.

University of Oklahoma researchers are using UAS platforms for weather and radar-related research, and, along with OSU, are collaborating with the National Severe Storms Laboratory to use UAS to characterize severe storms.

Registration:

A catered dinner will be served and attendees will have access to exhibits in the museum. Business attire is recommended. The dinner event will begin at 6:00pm and end at 10:00pm on August 8th, 2016.

Registration for the dinner is $35 before July 20, 2016 and $50 after July 20, 2016.

NOTE: The August 9th Summit DOES NOT include registration for the August 8th dinner, the August 8th dinner registration must be purchased separately.
