On Saturday, November 7th, the Terry Lee Wells Nevada Discovery Museum (The Discovery), in partnership with The Aerospace Learning Xperience (ALEX), will host the inaugural ALEX Day at The Discovery. The day’s activities offer interactive, hands-on aerospace experiences for visitors of all ages. This event is designed to inspire Science Technology Engineering Arts and Math (STEAM) related careers in aerospace.

Flight Xperience, sponsored by Shades of Blue and United Airlines, inspires imaginations to take to the air with certified flight instructors (commercial, military, and airline pilots) utilizing a variety of advanced simulators ranging from the Wright Flyer to modern aircraft, from helicopters to space vehicles. Visitors will land their own plane, talk with a real F16 Top Gun pilot, a Boeing 747 Captain, Veteran Heroes, Civil Air Patrol Cadets, and learn what it takes to become an aviation professional. Enjoy balloon races, radio controlled airplane displays, and various other aerodynamic demonstrations.

Build-a-Plane Project - Students learn various riveting techniques, when to apply them, and work with an array of materials such as aluminum, fiberglass, and carbon fiber composites. Visitors have an opportunity to use riveter and punch tools, and learn how to build an aircraft wing. Meet the Abaris training specialists, recognized as the world leader in advanced composite training.

Drone Zone - See, touch, and fly quadcopters of varying sizes. OnStarDigital and Les Schwab are sponsoring flight demonstrations on the hour. Get up close and personal with Drone America’s latest technology and applications. From the transportation of critical medical supplies to disaster relief, Drone America is helping to make the world a better place.View the Flirtey drone, the vehicle that made the first successful government approved drone delivery in the USA.

Lunar Lab - The Fleischmann Planetarium and Science Center, Reno Robot Club, Pathways to Aviation’s Dr. Greg Stanley (aka Dr. Rocket), Nevada Rocketry, and FYRE are hosting interactive activities about Astronomy, Earth, Space, and trajectories. Operate robots, a Mars Rover , and touch a meteorite.

External Programming - Weather permitting, the Washoe County Sheriff’s Department will fly in and display their Raven helicopter, visitors can climb into a Hot Air Balloon, and have their photos taken in an authentic airliner cockpit.
