Air Zoo Celebrates National Aviation Day with Flight Discovery Center Open House
In observance of National Aviation Day, the Air Zoo will open its newly-renamed Flight Discovery Center to the public from noon-5pm at no charge. Pilots are invited to fly-in for the festivities.
Portage, MI, August 8, 2018 - The Air Zoo is excited to celebrate National Aviation Day on Sunday, August 19th. National Aviation Day was established in 1939 by Franklin Delano Roosevelt to celebrate the development of aviation, and is a presidential proclamation designated to the anniversary of Orville Wright's birthday.
In observance of this celebration, the Air Zoo will open its newly-renamed Flight Discovery Center (formerly the East Campus, located at 3101 E. Milham Rd. Kalamazoo, MI 49001) to the public from noon-5pm at no charge. The Air Zoo's Flight Discovery Center was the home of the Air Zoo when it first opened its doors in 1979. Attendees can observe fly-in aircraft and mingle with pilots, enthusiasts, volunteers and staff. The Air Zoo restoration crew will also be onsite to share stories and information regarding their exciting WWII airplane restoration programs and how the community can get involved. Everyone is invited to explore aircraft exhibits, test their skills in one of the Air Zoo's open training cockpits and enjoy refreshments and hands-on activities for the kids (while supplies last).
In addition, the Air Zoo will be offering a 50% discount to all pilots baring license at the Flight Innovation Center on Portage Rd. (main campus) on Sunday the 19th. The Air Zoo will observe normal general admission rates at the Portage Rd Flight Innovation Center for all other visitors.
