Join Us for Bahamas Habitat’s 15th Fly In To Serve Others
Join the Bahamas Habitat’s 15th Fly In To Serve Others Thursday, October 23 – Sunday, October 26

"The Fly In is a great introduction to the good work that is going on in The Bahamas," says Mark Buhlig, the Missions and Community Pastor at Englewood Baptist Church in Liberty, Missouri and founder of Points On The Wheel, one of Bahamas Habitat's co-pilot organizations. Good works are exactly what Fly In to Serve Others, a twice-a-year volunteer experience to deliver much-needed supplies and support for island projects, is all about. While Mark has served on teams performing hands-on building and labor, the aspect that really engages him is connecting with people. "My engagement may not be typical. When I participate in a Fly In, I tend to engage in relationship-building," Mark explains. "Many on the Fly-In will want to get their hands dirty, but for me, it is perhaps more important to get to know the good people of Eleuthera. Working on a house or car is important. But, through relationship, we move from working on a house or a car, to working with a friend. If we just come to work for a 'poor person', we miss an opportunity for that person, their life and their world view to change us in ways we could not otherwise imagine." Open to both pilots and passengers with a passion for service, the four-day event begins Thursday, October 23, with lunch north of Ft. Lauderdale in Fort Pierce, FL, the Fly-In "launching pad." After a check-in, the group takes flight, arriving in time for a beautiful Bahamian sunset. Friday's work day has teams doing everything from delivering medical supplies to outfitting the Zion Children's Home. Saturday, teams finish up and then take the afternoon off for sightseeing. Participants return to Florida on Sunday. The registration fee covers accommodations at mission base, Bahamas Methodist Habitat's Camp Symonette, and most meals. "The blend of the beauty of The Bahamas, the charm of the Bahamians and the opportunity to contribute your time and effort to make the world a better place is a rare combination," Mark concludes. "This is a rare experience. Do it!"
