From next Saturday 6th to Saturday the 13th at la Cerdanya Aerodrome (Pyrenees) will be holding the Qualifying Sailplane Grand Prix Spain 2014, celebrated for the first time in Spain, and that will join the best sailplane pilots.

The Grand Prix, organized by the International Aeronautical Federation (FAI), is a speed competition in which gliders fly from 150 to 400 km, taking advantage of airflows, overflying previously established waypoints and where the first to cross the finish line, located over the aerodrome, at a speed of approximately 280 km/h, is the winner.

La Cerdanya is an ideal location to fly sailplanes due to its great weather and mountainous terrain, yet located at 1:30 drive from the sea. During the last years it has received numerous flying clubs from UK, France, Germany and many countries more and it has been established as a European renowned flying centre.

During the last years it has held numerous flying contests such as the Spanish National Sailplane Championship but it had never before held such a competition.
