SAFE Elects Three New Directors

By popular vote of Society of Aviation and Flight Educators (SAFE) members, Thomas J. Carr and Joan Williams were elected to serve initial three-year terms on the organization’s Board of Directors, while current board member David St. George was re-elected.

By popular vote of Society of Aviation and Flight Educators (SAFE) members, Thomas J. Carr and Joan Williams were elected to serve initial three-year terms on the organization's Board of Directors, while current board member David St. George was re-elected.

Carr, of Overland Park, Kansas, holds an ATP certificate with numerous type ratings and a CFI certificate with ratings for airplanes, instrument and multiengine, has given over 2,000 hours of dual instruction and is a former FAA Designated Examiner. He is the Director of Flight Operations Director and Chief Test Pilot for Garmin International and is an Associate Fellow with the Society of Experimental Test Pilots. He earned a BS in Aerospace Engineering from the University of Kansas and holds a Juris Doctor degree from the President's College School of Law in Wichita, Kansas.

St. George, of Ithaca, New York, was elected to the SAFE Board of Directors after having filled a Board vacancy for the last two years. He is Chief Flight Instructor for the East Hill Flying Club and an FAA Designated Pilot Examiner. He holds an ATP certificate with a multiengine rating and an FAA Commercial pilot certificate with single engine land and sea and glider ratings. He holds a BA in Philosophy and a Master's Degree in Positive Psychology. St. George is the creator of the popular SAFE app used by hundreds of SAFE members as a ready resource while teaching.

Williams, who lives in Toronto, Ontario, is a principal of OASIS Consulting Services and Board Chair and VP-Quality for Ottawa Aviation Services in Ontario. She holds a Transport Canada Commercial pilot certificate with multiengine and instrument ratings, is a Class I Flight Instructor with more than 5,000 hours of dual given and a Designated Flight Test Examiner. Williams was Manager of Flight Operations for a small charter operation and Chief Flying Instructor at one of Canada's largest flight schools. She is a published author and holds a Master of Social Work degree and a Master of Arts degree in Philosophy. She also serves on the board of the Air Transport Association of Canada (ATAC) and is Chair of the ATAC National Flight Training Committee.
