Amazon’s Looking For A Drone Pilot/Engineer

Giant e-tailer Amazon seems to be getting more serious about delivering packages with unmanned aerial systems. This week, the company posted a detailed help-wanted notice seeking an engineer and/or pilot with experience in UAS development and a background in FAA certification projects.

Recall that late last year, Amazon unveiled a test project in which small drones were used to deliver packages in a service it has since been dubbed Amazon Prime Air. At the time, many in the aviation business thought the move was a promotional trial balloon by Amazon, but the company appears to be going forward with it, at least through the developmental stages.

The company’s adseeks a pilot with five years of flight test experience and a Bachelor’s degree in aeronautical engineering; the ad notes a preference for a current fixed-wing or rotorcraft pilot’s certificate. “We’re looking for aerospace, systems, or other engineers with extensive UAS flight experience, and preferably experience in working with authorities on UAS certification,” the job description says.
