Honda Aircraft Company held a ceremony to break ground for the company’s new wing production facility in Greensboro, North Carolina, on Tuesday. According to Honda, the facility “will allow for more HondaJet Elite wings to be assembled concurrently” and add additional storage for HondaJet service parts. Construction is expected to be completed by July 2020. The groundbreaking ceremony featured a HondaJet Elite flyover and remarks from North Carolina Governor Roy Cooper, Executive Director of the Piedmont Triad Airport Authority Kevin Baker and Honda Aircraft Company President and CEO Michimasa Fujino.
The 83,000-square-foot wing production facility will be located at Honda Aircraft’s 133+ acre Greensboro campus. Honda estimates its investment in the project at approximately $15.5 million. “The 2007 announcement that Honda Aircraft Company would make its home in Greensboro helped North Carolina become the second fastest growing aviation cluster in the United States,” said Governor Cooper. “Today’s ceremony is another step in growing the aviation industry in our state.”
