AVweb's search of aviation news turned up several items in the world of e-cockpits: A new digital standby instrument from L-3, an upgraded simulation station from one-G, a milestone at PilotAptitudeTest.com, and a new service launched by Fltplan. L-3 Aviation Products introduced its next-generation Electronic Standby Instrument (ESI), the Genesis ESI-500. The standby unit is designed specifically for Class I, II and III Part 23 aircraft and Part 27 helicopters. It features a 3-inch display that incorporates synthetic vision, obstacles, terrain alerting and navigation. Seattle flight simulation developer one-G simulation unveiled its new instructor operating station, the 1G-IOS. Built with a web-based design interface, the 1G-IOS enhances the usability of one-G simulation's Advanced Aviation Training Device (AATD) fleet by giving flight instructors and their students an unrivaled training tool.
Online software provider PilotAptitudeTest.com announced a breakthrough milestone with over 40,000 psychomotor and psychometric activities being completed by over 2,000 candidates in under 12 months. Live statistics track the usage of the software online, with activity usage over the preceding 12 months at 40,084 and climbing. FltPlan has launched its newest service, RAFT, a sophisticated proprietary interface that works closely with the FAA's Traffic Management system to alert users of any current or upcoming ATC delays or ground stop programs. FltPlan's RAFT, which stands for Reactive Advanced Filing Technology, "reacts" to notices from the FAA regarding possible ATC delays an at airport by advance filing the flight plan (immediately, up to six hours in advance). Doing so ensures that users have the best possible positioning for their flight in the queue in the event of delays, ground stop programs or re-routes.
