Levil Aviation's New BOM And ADS-B »

At Sun 'n Fun 2017, Levil Aviation introduced two innovative avionics products, one called the BOM and a second, an ADS-B Out system built entirely into the antenna that's installed on the belly of the aircraft. The BOM is a clever self-self contained AHRS, pitot system, GPS and angle of attack system contained in a wing mounted pod and driven by a small wind turbine on the back of the unit. More

TruTrak Nears Autopilot Certification »

Experimental autopilot manufacturer TruTrak, in partnership with EAA, has been working on FAA certification for its low-cost Vizion digital autopilot. Initially, the Vizion will have AML-STC approval for Cessna Skyhawk and Cardinal models, but others are planned as early as this summer. Cessna's Moose Carrying 206 »

Cessna sent a new 206 Turbo Stationair HD to Sun 'n Fun 2017 in Lakeland, Florida, and AVweb crawled all over it to report on the updates. From the cockpit, the plane feels like a really nice Cessna 182 with the new Garmin G1000 NXi flight deck, but up front there's a turbocharged Lycoming producing 310 hp. That 310 hp is how the big piston Cessna gets its maximum useful load of 1,623 pounds--if you're willing to remove all the seats save one. More

Teresa Eamon's Songs Bring Warbirds To Life »

Teresa Eamon, a professional vocalist, sings at the Victory’s Arsenal Stage at Sun 'n Fun 2017 in Lakeland, Florida. Before a restorer presents their airplane to the assembled crowd, Teresa puts on a show, singing music from the airplane’s era of manufacture—in full contemporary costume and hair. Mostly, that means big-band swing music and attire from “the greatest generation,” but the occasional Korean War era jet will bring Teresa from her trailer in beehive hair singing pop songs of the early 1950s. Geoff Rapoport spoke with her at Sun N’ Fun to learn a little more about her act and to find out how she came to be a regular on the air show scene. More

Garmin's G5 EFIS For Certified Airplanes »

At Sun 'n Fun 2017, Garmin announced the G5 electronic DG/EHSI, which is expected to have a street price of $2449 (and $4598 when paired with the previously released G5 attitude instrument). The G5 electronic DG/EHSI—which will be covered by an extensive AML-STC—comes with a remote magnetometer, STC, battery backup and provides reversionary attitude data when paired with the G5 flight display. The instrument won't work with autopilots, but it will work with a wide variety of Garmin navigators and navcomms, including legacy GNS530/430s, GNS480, the SL30, GNC255 and the current GTN navigators. The company also introduced two low-cost slide-in audio panels.
