C-130, F/A-18 Collide Off Japan (Updated)

One Marine Corps servicemember is dead and five others missing after the collision of a KC-130J Hercules and an F/A-18D Hornet during a refueling exercise off the coast of Japan. A seventh servicemember has been recovered alive. According to a statement from the U.S. Marine Corp, the individual is in fair condition. Search and rescue operations continue for the five missing crewmembers. The surviving servicemember was reportedly onboard the F/A-18.

"The aircraft involved in the mishap had launched from Marine Corps Air Station Iwakuni and were conducting regularly scheduled training when the mishap occurred," said the Marine Corps. "Japanese search and rescue aircraft immediately responded to aid in recovery."

The servicemember killed in the accident has been identified as Captain Jahmar F. Resilard, 28. Resilard served as an F/A-18 pilot with Marine All Weather Fighter Attack Squadron 242. His decorations include the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, and National Defense Service Medal.

The accident occurred approximately 200 miles off the coast at 2 a.m. local time on Dec. 6. The cause is under investigation.
