WASHINGTON – The National Transportation Safety Board is presenting a seminar highlighting the lessons learned from the NTSB’s investigations of general aviation accidents involving aerodynamic stalls and loss of control.
Accidents attributed to “loss of control in-flight” are the most common defining events for fatal crashes in the personal flying sector of general aviation, accounting for about 40 percent of GA fatalities.
For this seminar, the NTSB has partnered with other organizations also committed to enhancing GA safety – the Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association, the Federal Aviation Administration, and the Society of Aviation and Flight Educators (SAFE) – who will all be participating in this event.
NTSB Board Member Earl Weener will be a featured presenter, and attendees will have the opportunity to meet and ask questions of Member Weener, NTSB staff, and other presenters.
This event is the fifth in a series of safety seminars focused on preventing general aviation accidents. It’s designed for pilots, mechanics and other members of the GA community; it is not a news media event.
Pilots participating in the FAA’s WINGS program will receive credit for attendance.
The safety seminar will be held on Saturday, May 10, 2014, from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the NTSB Training Center, 45065 Riverside Parkway, Ashburn, Virginia, 20147.
The event is free and open to the public, but is limited to 200 attendees; early registration is highly recommended.
The doors will open at 8:30 a.m. A state or federal government issued photo ID, such as a driver’s license, is required for entry to the building.
