AVweb’s weekly foray into the latest aviation news uncovered news of a new president at MicroAerodynanics, a special aircraft sale by Quicksilver, no delay CFI insurance and staff additions at the EAA.

After several years as the Flight Test Director and Vice President at Micro AeroDynamics, Ms. Anni Brogan has become President of the company. She succeeds Charles White, founder of Micro AeroDynamics, who remains active in the company. Ms. Brogan has become an authority on the technology of micro vortex generators. Working with the FAA, she has overseen the development and flight testing for STCs of after-market kits for hundreds of models of aircraft ranging from the Piper Cub to the Beech King Air. In her new role, she will continue to pursue STCs and intends to expand market penetration in foreign countries.

Quicksilver Aeronautics announced that it is especially pleased to report the sale of a Special Light-Sport Aircraft, the Sport S2SE, to a different sort of customer, Jimmy Aguila, a thrice-wounded Iraq War veteran who was awarded the Purple Heart. Any aircraft delivery is satisfying to a producer but Quicksilver felt this one deserves extra attention. After his return to the U.S. Aguila earned his Sport Pilot certificate and is working on his CFI-S. “I met Jimmy Aguila recently. He called me to say he wanted a Quicksilver Sport 2SE SLSA,” said Quicksilver Aeronautics President and CEO, Will Escutia. “Every day I come to work and face the problems and challenges of running a business. However Jimmy’s story adds proper perspective to life. Jimmy’s story captured my attention and I feel humbled.”

For the first time, Society of Aviation and Flight Educators (SAFE) aircraft liability insurance for CFIs is available almost instantly, without the long, drawn-out paper applications required for most other CFI policies. “SAFE members can now buy SAFE CFI insurance online, pay with a credit card and get confirmation of their new policy almost instantly, usually not more than five minutes,” said Jim Anderson, Senior Vice President of Starr Aviation in Arizona, which underwrites the special CFI insurance. “Previously, flight instructors could have to wait weeks for protection when instructing in a non-owned aircraft, such as one owned by a new student eager to learn to start flying.”

The Experimental Aircraft Association (EAA) has announced a number of staff additions at its headquarters in Oshkosh, Wisconsin. Among the new staff members are: Pat Webb, Director of Chapters; Jim Busha, Director of Publications; Dennis Jenders, Director of Marketing and Merisue Krenke, Marketing Associate
