The Weekender: Inside Or Outside

The Weekender found some mid-February choices for indoor and outdoor activities coming up on SocialFlight. In Albuquerque, the second annual New Mexico Angel Flight Fly-In will take place on Saturday. Angel Flight South Central President Tim Dammon and New Mexico Wing Leader Art Tangen will recognize volunteer pilots. Join the group for breakfast and lunch and take part in FAA Wings seminars featuring James Reynolds, meteorologist at the Albuquerque Center Weather Service Unit, and John Smith, meteorologist at KRQE News 13. The Western Museum of Flight in Torrance, California, will host a talk by William Wellman Jr., author of “The Man and His Wings,” on Saturday. Weldon will talk about his father, William Wellman Sr., director of “Wings.” The movie was the best-picture winner of the first Academy Awards ceremony held in 1929.

For another warm-weather fly-in, Friends of Arcadia Airport Inc. in Florida will host its monthly membership pancake breakfast Saturday. The PIC flying in eats free — after making a low pass before landing. For the rest, $6 will get you all-you-can-eat pancakes plus sausage, juice and coffee. Also Saturday — for those looking for yet more fun in the snow — the Hawkesbury Flying Club in Ontario will host a Ski Fly-In at East Hawkesbury Airport, serving sloppy joes. Be reminded that this fly-in is for skiplanes only, but everyone is welcome to drive in. For details about upcoming events, visit SocialFlight.
