Former Delta Air Lines executive Steve Dickson has been nominated by President Trump to become the next FAA Administrator. Recently retired as senior VP of flight operations at Delta, Dickson will, if approved by the Senate, take over an agency whose aircraft-certification procedures are under tremendous scrutiny after the second fatal crash of the Boeing 737 MAX 8 aircraft less than two weeks ago.

AOPA President and CEO Mark Baker, who worked with Dickson on the NextGen Advisory Committee, said, “Steve Dickson is a solid choice to lead the FAA. His in-depth knowledge of our aviation system, keen awareness of general aviation as well as the challenges before us make him the right choice to lead the agency. I am hopeful the Senate will move to confirm Mr. Dickson as quickly as possible.”

Dickson would replace Dan Elwell, who has been Acting Administrator for 14 months after the retirement of Michael Huerta.
