AVwebs weekly survey of whats new in aviation uncovered an expansion of the long-running Citation Special Olympics Airlift, election of there new board members of the Society of Aviation and Flight Educators, a Fly First Year Free promotion for one Diamond DA40 XLT and the scheduling of a Heavy Bomber Weekend in Milwaukee just prior to EAA Oshkosh. For the first time in the event's 27-year history, the Citation Special Olympics Airlift will include Beechcraft owners alongside Cessna Citation operators flying roughly 700 athletes from across the country to compete in the 2014 Special Olympics USA Games in New Jersey. More than 100 owners and operators have donated their aircraft, along with pilots and fuel, to transport athletes and coaches from 28 departure locations in 22 states to Trenton-Mercer Airport (TTN) in New Jersey on June 14. The aircraft will return to TTN on June 21 to take the athletes home after the weeklong USA Games. Three well-known aviation leaders were elected to the Society of Aviation and Flight Educators (SAFE) Board of Directors, each for three-year terms. They were elected by popular vote open to all 900 SAFE members and will begin their duties at the Society's annual meeting on Thursday, July 31, 2014 at AirVenture in Oshkosh, Wis. The three are Sherry Knight Rossiter of Missoula, Mont., Dr. Donna Wilt of Melbourne, Fla., and Ken Wittekiend of Burnet, Texas.

To draw attention to the new enhancements of the latest Diamond DA40 XLT model (DA40XLT.com) and to highlight the economic leverage of the DiamondShare program, Dominion Aircraft Sales today announced that its next XLT off the line is a "Special Edition" with an unprecedented feature set and a "Fly First Year Free" promotional package that pays for virtually all first-year expenses of ownership. The "Special Edition" created by Dominion includes features and advantages not previously offered like LED lights and even includes an Apple iPad Mini with wireless ADS-B. Finally, in a second annual gathering of World War II era aircraft the CAF and EAA are joining forces for a "Heavy Bombers Weekend" in Madison, Wis., the weekend before EAA AirVenture. The 3-day event starts Friday, July 25, 2014, and will feature an airworthy B-25 Mitchell Miss Mitchell,the B-17 Aluminum Overcastand the P-51 Mustang Gunfighter. Other attending aircraft include a T-6 Texan, Canadian Harvard MK IV, Vultee BT-13, Ryan PT-22, L-5 Sentinel, T-33 Shooting Star and an OV-1 Mohawk. Most of the airplanes will be available for ground tours and rides.
