“Picture of the Week” submissions inch back up to normal levels thisweek, with just under 100 photos in our contest. As usual, ourphotos come from all around the globe – although this week, there seemedto be a curiously high number of submissions from Illinois, at leastamong our top ten or fifteen contenders. (What, did you guys allget the week off work?) Two of them even made it into this week’sfeature, although if you’re looking for our winning photo, you’ll wantto shift your gaze a bit to the southwest – to Lawrence, Kansas, home ofDoug DuBois.

Congratulations, Doug! Keep your eye on the mailbox, ’causewe’ll be sending you one of those sharp-looking AVweb baseball caps towarm your head in that li’l Dragonfly.

To win one of these hats for yourself, you mustsubmityour aviation photos! Each week, we’ll choose our favoritesand share them right here on AVweb – but we can only do that if you keepsending photos. So get cracking! (Maybe your state orprovince can make it a week-long holiday, like they do in Illinois.)

M.C. Escher Tows a Glider

Doug DuBois of Lawrence, Kansaswrites:

This is a self-portrait of myself, towing a hang glider aloft with a Bailey-Moyes Dragonfly tug. The disorienting, M.C. Escher-like composition is due to the fact that I am aiming my camera at the tug’s large rear-view mirror, capturing myself, the Dragonfly, and the glider on tow, with a straight-ahead view of the Ottawa, Kansas countryside surrounding the mirror.

Adventure AirSports, LLC owns the tug and uses it to provide hang gliding instruction and towing in the flat lands of eastern Kansas.

AVweb continues to receive a large number of excellent images for our POTW contest. Here are some of the runners-up. Due to privacy issues, AVweb does not publish e-mail addresses ofreaders who submit photos.

“Was There Really a Man in There, Daddy?”

The B-17 Sentimental Journey sure gets around! What’s more, she always inspires people to break out their cameras – we can’t tellyou how many times we’ve seen this girl in “POTW” entries, and she alwaysseems to make the final round of selections.

Christoper S. White and sonChris (of Granville, Ohio) saw Sentimental Journey at the Zanesville Municipal Airport earlier thismonth.

Beaver – Is This for Real?

To wrap it up this week, we turn to DerichHofmann of Antelope, Oregon:

Taken last week up at Young Life’s Malibu Club youth camp at the Princess Louisa Inlet in British Columbia, Canada. While it’s a real airplane, for some reason the photo makes it look like a toy, almost like the old movies that used models for some of the scenes. Chris [Marshall] is a great friend of mine that took this photo. When I told him there’s a lot of folks out there in the world that would love to see this, he had no problem with me sending this in to you.

We’ve certainly go no problem with it, Derich. Send our thanks toChris – and for everyone who’s reading this on AVweb, here’s another onewhere you’ll want to click through for thefull-size image.(Especially if you have a nice “widescreen” monitor layout.)
