Beaver at Sunset
De Havilland Beaver on floats at sunset in Tofino, British Columbia. Negative scan from a Bronica ETRSi. Taken in the late '90s. Cropped slightly from the original format and resized to meet upload limits.

NAS Oshkosh
The folded wings of an F4U-4 Corsair frame the Oshkosh air traffic control tower during AirVenture 2011 at Naval Air Station Oshkosh.

Workhorse
Taken at Shafter-Minter Airport (KMIT) during a fuel stop. (Camera: Canon Rebel XT. Three exposures bracketed and composited in Photomatix 3.)

Summer Breeze
In the summer heat, it's a fight for the window seat. This was a sunset departure.

Piper Aeronca Chief
Taken at Roosterville Airport in Liberty, Missouri with a Canon 40D. See SportFlight.net for more of my work.
Ed. Note: Ye olde "POTW" editor has resisted the urge to check out Kirk's link while putting together this edition, but you can bet he'll be there nosing around with the rest of AVweb's readers early tomorrow morning.
Ed. Note 2: Thanks to all those readers who caught the typo misidentifying our "Piper" Chief!

Out of the Sun
Arrival of the Boeing 787 at Oshkosh AirVenture 2011. Nikon D70, unretouched except for reducing size.

Balloon Dip
This is the Rio Grande gorge near Taos, New Mexico. Most flights include dipping the basket in the river. You can't see the actual dip because of the steep walls, but you can tell when it happens because the water is cold and the passengers holler when they get their feet wet.

Airbus 380 at the Paris Air Show
Even though this looks like an aerial photo, this shot was actually taken from the ground as the aircraft was climbing away at a steep angle.

Rolling Out on Final at Sunset
Unretouched. Taken from our RV-10 at Grand Coulee Dam Airport (3W7) on August 6, 2011. Canon PowerShot SD780 IS.

Very Big Toy for Small Children?
This very large electric RC glider at scale 1:3 ( wingspan 8.40 m for a weight of 25 kg) is not a toy for small children but a true one for adult children! Photo taken with a Pentax Optio P80 camera at 1/250 sec, F 7.0, focal length 5mm. No other modification than reduction of the size of the original file under to 1MB.

Oshkosh as It Should Be Seen - From the Air
AirVenture main venue, taken from the Bell 47 helicopter. Canon Rebel xti 11-18 4.5f, Tamron wide-angle zoom. Used auto levelling in Photoshop.

Sundown
N5000A, the first Cessna 172 ever manufactured. Photographed during the First Annual Cessna 172 Club Fly-In at Strother Field near Winfield, Kansas. Only minor exposure adjustments and cropping. Canon 50D.

Wave for the Camera!
Challenger ultralight flight on a beautiful evening in Ottawa, Ontario (Canada). Taken with a Nikon D200 using a 70-200mm f/2.8 VR lens at 155mm f/5.6 ISO 400.

Four-Plane Formation
Started out as a three-plane formation of our Yellow Birds from the Canadian Historical Aircraft Association, consisting of a Stearman and the two Chipmunks when another member in his Acro Sport joined us. Great tight formation. Just cropped and resized. Taken with a Nikon D90.

Starship Modification?
"Mergers" are always a big problem when photographing static airplanes, especially on crowded ramps. I usually work hard to avoid them, but this time I did the opposite - as a tribute to the variety of airplanes one can see together probably only at AirVenture!

Heading Home from Oshkosh
1955 C180/G about 50 miles SSE of Oshkosh. Shot with a Canon PowerShot S3IS; cropped and resized below 1MB. Shot from another 1955 C180.

Glacier Approach
Photographed in Alaska with a Pentax Optio. No digital manipulations.

Afternoon Storms
Afternoon summer storm rolling in over PIE. Editing of the photo was done. Taken with my HTC EVO phone.

"909" at Sunset
The Collings Foundation's B-17 "909" watches the sunset. Enhanced with Adobe Lightroom 2.

P-51 Smoke Ring Bullseye!
With the simulated bomb blasts, smoke rings formed at the Saturday air show at Oshkosh 2011. The P-51s decided to make a game of it and fly through the smoke rings! The photo was cropped to show a closer view of the aircraft going through the smoke ring.
