The Weekender: First Flights In The New Year

0

The Weekender hopes to start the new year right by getting others airborne, and SocialFlight found at least one New Year’s Eve party to kick things off. TheLiberty Aviation Museum in Port Clinton, Ohio, will host a 1940s-style Big Band Hangar Dance complete with live music, food, free dance lessons and theme contests. The event will run past midnight. All proceeds from tickets and other sales will benefit the museum. New Year’s Day outings include EAA Chapter 938’s fly-in in Nappanee, Indiana, to celebrate the holiday. Join fellow pilots and their guests for a lunch get-together at the airport.

The annual New Year’s Day fly-out from Smoketown, Pennsylvania, will kick off at noon on Friday at the FBO, where all are invited to share lunch and celebrate the holiday with a logbook entry. The fly-out is VFR weather-dependent. Also Friday, EAA Chapter 231 at Freeman Field in Louisa, Virginia, will give free Young Eagles flights for kids ages 8 to 17. On Saturday, Lancaster Airport in Pennsylvania will host a breakfast and safety seminar. The presentation will feature pilot Mike O’Neill, who will discuss various topics on aircraft performance, including density altitude, canyon flying and mountain flying.
