A 62-year-old man who was on a Mexican beach was killed when a Cessna Caravan carrying skydivers landed on top of him during a forced landing. The incident occurred on a crowded section of beach in the Pacific coast town of Puerto Escondido in the state of Oaxaca. The aircraft had four Canadian skydivers and a Mexican pilot onboard. They were all taken to a local hospital and were in stable condition on Monday.
There was no immediate word on what prompted the emergency landing, which took place between the surf line and a wooden building used as a restaurant on the beach. The aircraft was heavily damaged but remained intact, and there was no post-crash fire.
I’ve told my Civil Air Patrol cadets, “On the day you come searching for me, bring a fire truck, because there WILL be fuel at my crash site.”
There seems to be a preponderance of Caravan crashes lately (a year-ish)? Iโm wondering if there is a common thread leading up to these crashes?

“Prop”
Normal procedure for an engine failure. Surprised no fire.
I guess that was my point, engine failed. A lack fire does seem like no fuel in the tanks, at least the left one.
It doesn’t to me, viewing the shovel twisted behind the exaust of the turbo propeller.
N80GE is the registration. Some better pictures on another site. With how much damage on the left wing really surprised no fire. Probably ran out of fuel, or forgot to turn on the right side fuel valve.
Looking at just this photo, this appears to be a Grand Caravan, and appears to have had the standard PT6 replaced as the exhaust is exiting at the RH upper forward end of the cowling and not in the factory position of the RH lower aft.
It is a grand Caravan, C208B. Has an upgraded PT6-42 engine with 850hp instead of the standard 675hp. Thatโs why the different exhaust configuration.
Not all planes that crash with fuel, catch fire.
What are the odds of being run over by a plane on a beach
Given the highly unusual and rare nature of being run over by a plane on a beach, a “wild-ass guess” could be that the odds are in the range of one in several billion or even more. ๐ค๐
It is fortunate for Avweb there are so many experts available for comment.
