Video: ScaleWings Carbon Fiber Mustang Replica At AirVenture 2022

With lots of downsized P-51 replicas to choose from, ScaleWings’ carbon fiber version offers the Revell-model ease of assembly, while retaining the all-metal “look.” The Germany-based company painstakingly duplicated all the rivets, screws, hardware—even replicated the fabric-covered rudder—with indentations in the factory molds. Many people assume it’s actually a metal airplane.

    • IDK, the whole history of the war makes them uncomfortable over there. I think they’d sooner do a spitfire next than any of the German planes. The RC aircraft market seems to be rough on the German planes as well. A friend of mine says it’s much harder to find good models of the German ones.

    • I interpret it as just a market in action. Their product is a fun, warbird-nostalgia aircraft. There are probably more US buyers who are nostalgic for the P-51 than there are European buyers who are nostalgic for the FW-190. So, they build the product that the largest market segment wants the most.

  1. I saw it at Oshkosh and to my surprise was actually able to get into (and out of) the non-flying display and I am a rather stiff 79 year old. Now I want one. Am currently building a CH-750 with a Rotax 914 which is probably easier to get into but the Mustang is certain eye catching and the sound is amazingly like the real one.
