Poll: What Do You Rate The Chances Of Flying That Ural A320 Out Of A Muddy Field?

Having an A320 type rating I can say that I’ll be surprised if they don’t make it.

They stripped it down, so empty it’s less than 90,000 lbs? If they can accurately estimate the runway coefficient of drag for dirt then they only have to make it to a Vr of somewhere around 100kts’. V1 is sort of out the window.

TOGA, Packs off, Flaps 3.

Easy enough. Smooth out about 3000′ of ground for the runway. Wait for the ground to freeze and make sure you have lots of cameras and make it a pay per view event! Then fly it gear down to a nearby airport, run it across the was rack and its back in business.

Frozen ground, minimal weight airplane, light, or no wind, they should be able to fly it out.

We J3 and C172 pilots are certainly willing to give them the benefit of our dirt runway experience.
